Carboxymethyl Cellulose Sodium is a cellulose derivative often used in food products as a viscosity modifier/thickener or to stabilize emulsions.

Carboxymethyl cellulose sodium appears as white, fibrous, free-flowing powder, and is used commonly as an FDA and Health Canada-approved disintegrant in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Disintegrants facilitate the breakup of a tablet in the intestinal tract after oral administration
